Management Team

The Calytrix Management Team uniquely combines technical expertise with real world military experience.


Shawn Parr

Shawn is the CEO and Founder of Calytrix Technologies. With over 20 years experience in the IT industry, the last 10 years in the Defence Simulation and Training domain, Shawn brings a wealth of knowledge and delivery experience to the organisation.

Since taking on the role of CEO in mid-2005 Calytrix has enjoyed sustained growth and greater opportunities. Shawn has actively fostered an ethos of partnering with defence to ensure that Calytrix's solutions meet the training and operational needs of its customers.

Shawn holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from the University of Queensland and a research based Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) in Component-Based Software Engineering from Griffith University.

Steve Salmon
Training Systems Principal

Steve Salmon is a Principal of Calytrix Training Systems (CaTS) and has a wealth of military operational and training experience. Steve served 30 years in the Australian Defence Force predominantly in operational, command, training and instructional positions.

Immediately prior to joining Calytrix, Steve was the Director of Studies and Joint Operations Component Director at the Australian Command and Staff College. In previous operational positions Steve was the Director of Joint Plans within the Headquarters of the Australian Defence Force responsible for developing strategic levels plans for ADF operations and the Deputy Commander of ADF forces in the Middle East (Iraq).  Amalgamating Joint and Combined operational experience with his senior command and instructional abilities, both within Australia and overseas, Steve provides Calytrix with a valuable insight into military and emergency management operations and training.

As the Principal of CaTS, Steve has been responsible for assisting clients to plan and conduct major training events through the integration of Live, Virtual and Constructive simulation systems.

In addition to a wide variety of military qualifications Steve is a Graduate and Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a qualified Financial Planner, and Master Project Director with the Australian Institute of Project Managers.

Buck Connor

Buck Connor graduated from West Point in May 1981 and was commissioned a 2LT of Armor. He retired from the Army with the rank of Colonel on 1 July 2005 and accepted a position with SAIC working on the Army Future Combat System Training Integrated Product Team. During his more than 24 years in the Army, Buck served in a variety of command and staff assignments throughout the United States and overseas in Germany, Korea, Bosnia, and three separate tours of duty in the Middle East; the last in combat as the commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division in Iraq from September 2003 through September 2004, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with V device for Valor. He is currently the President of Calytrix Technologies incorporated in Orlando.

Buck was with SAIC for eight years, beginning on the Future Combat System program in St Louis from 2005 through September 2009. On the FCS program he served in a variety of jobs including the PM for training execution. In November 2011 he became the division manager for the Virtual Training product line, absorbing the Constructive Training product line in December 2012. In this new division, Immersive Training Solutions Division, he was responsible for overseeing day-to-day division operations of 12 programs producing nearly $70M in revenue annually. He became President of Calytrix Technologies Incorporated on 30 September 2013 and is actively engaged in making Calytrix a leader in the Orlando Modeling and Simulation community.


Matt Moncrieff
Training Systems Manager

Matt is the Training Systems Manager with Calytrix Training Systems (CaTS) and manages the Calytrix Canberra office, liaising with Calytrix’s numerous Canberra and Sydney based clients. Matt comes from a strong military operational and training background after 24 years with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in operational, command, training and instructional positions.

Before joining Calytrix, Matt was a Director of Studies and Joint Operations Component Manager at the Australian Command and Staff College. Outside of training and instructional positions, Matt’s experience has predominantly been in border protection operations. This experience includes command of a patrol boat and a two year secondment to the US Coast Guard as the Fisheries and Law Enforcement Officer.

In addition to his business skills, Matt provides Calytrix and its customers with a detailed understanding of the challenges and benefits of integrating simulation into large scale training and exercise activities. His experience in this area extends across the military and disaster response domains.

As well as his military qualifications, Matt holds a Masters of Business Administration.


Damon Curry
International Sales Manager

Damon is responsible for Calytrix' international sales and business development. Prior to joining Calytrix, Damon served in similar roles of VP of Sales, Director of European Operations, International Sales Manager, etc., at Primary Image, TERREX, Paradigm Simulation, and Virtual Prototypes, for a total of 18 years in the modeling and simulation industry.

Before that, Damon served 16 years with the US Air Force, including time as software test engineer and avionics hardware engineer.

Damon's engineering background, coupled with his business knowledge and experience, helps him understand customers' simulation needs and respond effectively. He travels extensively to meet and support Calytrix' customers and work with Calytrix' distributors and resellers around the world.

Damon holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (Computer Option) degree from The Ohio State University, and is a Distinguished Graduate of the US Air Force Officer Training School.



Dr. Tim Pokorny is Calytrix's CTO, responsible for the oversight and management of our suite of COTS products. Tim has over 10 years experience with distributed simulation technologies such as HLA and DIS. He is the co-creator of Portico, a popular open source HLA Run-Time Infrastructure, and provides technical guidance and direction for Calytrix’s complete product line.

Tim is an active member of simulation industry groups both nationally and internationally via participation with the Simulation Industry Association of Australia (SIAA) and the Simulation Interoperability and Standards Organisation (SISO), previously appointed as a member on the SISO Standards Activity Committee (SAC).

Tim holds a PhD in Distributed Simulation from the University of Ballarat.
